Asphalting of 1.5 million lei in the Subcity, between the roundabout and the road bridge

I PLOW. Two weeks ago, the municipality announced traffic restrictions on Eugen Popa Street, on the section between the roundabout in Subcetate and the Micălaca Road Bridge. The reason for these restrictions: resurfacing the roadway and sidewalks.

“Measures to restrict/close road traffic in order to carry out maintenance and repair works on the roadway and sidewalks on Eugen Popa Street, on the section mentioned above, were approved by the Traffic Systematization Commission on April 9, 2024,” it said The town hall on April 11.

In a first phase, the intervention was carried out at the level of the sidewalks where the pavement was removed, and at the moment the entire carriageway surface of the road leading to the Micălaca bridge has been stripped, driving on a single lane in each direction . For now, the works are carried out under traffic or at night, as happened on Monday evening, when the “night” construction site was visited by the mayor Călin Bibarț, on his evening patrol:

“Good evening, even though it is evening now, we have no dilemmas, we are at the roundabout, near the Cetate, from the Subcetate, which leads to the bridge and to Arad Nou. We had no choice but to work at night here because otherwise we were really blocking the whole area, so we arranged for them to mobilize tonight for the roundabout part. There was still part of the bridge and Eugen Popa street beyond, let’s say it goes with traffic in one direction and in the other direction, but in the roundabout we only had this solution, the most practical, by the way, and as they also said (nn the workers) probably by morning they manage to finish this part of the work. The weather is with us, it was scheduled a night earlier, but that’s it, it’s good now. So I congratulate them and thank them for working at night too. So, it is possible”, said the mayor, from the scene.

Only up to the bridge

Because apart from the information on traffic restrictions and those from the mayor’s evening patrol, other data about the work has not been made public, we requested the municipality for details on the cost of the investment and the exact portion that entered the modernization. Taking into account the fact that in the fall of last year, the procurement procedure for the development of the Intervention Works Approval Documentation (DALI) was launched for the project “Rehabilitation of the road bridge over the Mureș River”, connecting Micălaca and Subcetate.

I found out that currently the only planned work is the asphalting of the section leading from the roundabout towards Micălaca, asphalting that will stop at the junction with the road bridge, and will not continue towards Nicolae Titulescu. The investment will cost 1.5 million lei and is planned to be completed on May 10. From this money, the sidewalks will also be rebuilt, on the same segment.

The project for the bridge

As for the restoration of the road bridge, it is at the DALI stage, and the report accompanying the procurement procedure for the documentation preparation services spoke of major degradations:

“Currently, the construction shows major degradations on the infrastructure, namely infiltrations and decalcifications, as well as degradations on the structure, namely the asphalt covering, sidewalks and bridge curbs. At the same time, the stairs leading to the access to the bridge are in a visibly advanced state of decay and need to be completely restored”.

However, we still have to wait for this investment. Until then, the municipality urges road users to drive with caution during the works:

“We ask drivers to drive with caution and respect the legal speed limit for the areas where works are being carried out and respect the signage established in the area. If, during the execution of the works, the need for additional measures to close road traffic in the area will be found, it will proceed accordingly, with the mandatory obtaining of the Arad Traffic Police Notice by the Executor of the works.”
