The mayor of the Covasna resort, Gyero Jozsef, says that the future multifunctional balneo-climatic center, which is being built with the support of the National Investment Company (CNI), will change the “tourist paradigm” of the city, as it is expected that the diversification of the tourist offer will attract people from various social categories , not just pensioners, as has happened for decades in a row.

According to him, the construction works of the spa center started last fall, and according to the project, it should be completed in the next two years.

“Our vision is that, in a longer time perspective, Covasna will become a well-known and recognized resort on a national and international level and represent an attractive living environment for the residents of Covasna and for other people who come here. And in order to achieve this desired goal, we are concerned with implementing projects, programs, attracting funds (…) We managed to move from a zero point a great project and desired by the people of Covas, namely the construction of a wellness center, a multifunctional balneo-climatic center, this is the official name, for which we obtained financing through CNI. The execution of the works has already been tendered and now work is already underway on the substructure of that objective. It will be an investment objective that will change, I strongly believe, the tourism paradigm not only in the city of Covasna, but also in the county of Covasna”, Mayor Gyero Jozsef declared for AGERPRES.

He showed that they are trying to overcome the reputation of “retirement resort”.

“Because, at present, Covasna is known, let’s say, as a resort for pensioners, or it was known, rather, before 2000-2010, because people who received treatment tickets subsidized by the National Pension House came to Covasna. There was and still is the Cardiology Hospital, where patients come with treatment subsidized by the National Health Insurance House, but in terms of the profile of the well-paying tourist attracted from the competitive market, we were lacking because we did not have the accommodation infrastructure available , respectively the infrastructure for spending free time and recreation in the resort of Covasna. And you see, things combine, because if you don’t have infrastructure, the client doesn’t come, if the tourist doesn’t come, you don’t have resources attracted to the local budget, if you don’t have jobs, people leave you, avoid the resort. So everything is connected and, somehow, we have to catch this problem and, through an integrated development, combine all the development possibilities of the resort”, added Gyero Jozsef.

According to the project, the future spa center, which will cover an area of approximately three hectares near the ski slope of the resort, will have a constructed area of over 3,000 square meters and a height regime of S+D+2 floors.

It will include, among others, a beach, indoor and outdoor pools, public food and leisure spaces, sports and playgrounds for children, a SPA and wellness area, saunas, hydromassage, massage and relaxation rooms. AGERPRES
