Romanians are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to take shelter in safe places, in the context of Code Orange warnings of wind intensifications. In Cluj county, but also in other areas of the country, there were dozens of interventions to remove the effects produced by the strong wind.

Code orange for storms in Cluj County

Cluj County is under Code Orange for gales and wind intensifications, with gusts that will reach speeds of up to 80…85 km/h, and at high altitudes in mountainous areas, gusts will exceed 120 km/h.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), dozens of trees were felled and 16 cars were damaged as a result of the storms. Thus, in Cluj county and other areas of the country, there were dozens of interventions to remove the effects caused by the strong wind.

“In the context of the Code Orange and Code Yellow warnings of meteorological phenomena aimed at sustained intensification of the wind, in the interval 02.04.2024, 08.00 – 02.04.2024, 13.00, effects were recorded in 17 localities in 13 counties: Alba, Bihor , Botoșani, Buzau, Cluj, Dâmbovița, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ilfov, Mureș, Prahova, Suceava and Vâlcea, but also in the municipality of Bucharest. In these areas, the firefighters intervened to clear 13 construction elements, 60 trees felled by the wind, four poles fallen on the roadway, three houses, an annex and 16 cars were damaged”, according to an information published by IGSU.

According to the cited source, no injured persons have been registered for now.

Romanians, advised to stay at home

The recommendations for the population concern the adoption of safety and protection measures, so Romanians are advised to stay in their houses, with the windows closed, to avoid passing by trees and billboards, scaffolding or constructions that can be dislodged by strong winds.

To prevent life-threatening situations, observe the following recommendations:
*Stop activities carried out in open ground or at height.
*Close all the windows of the house and other categories of construction.
*Avoid taking shelter or passing near trees, poles, billboards, constructions with architectural elements that can be easily dislodged, as well as buildings under construction.
*Follow radio/TV stations for weather reports and authorities’ recommendations.

Due to the strong wind, maneuvers in all Black Sea ports and ferry crossings from Zimnicea/TR and Turnu Măgurele/TR to Bulgaria are suspended.

According to meteorologists, the wind will continue to blow strongly throughout the day.
