The performance of the Constanţa port also depends on the efficiency of the transport system, road, rail and on the Danube, so that the goods reach the port more easily. The flows of goods will reset after Hungary completes the modernization of the port of Trieste, to which it will have access from 2026 following an agreement with Italy, therefore the port of Constanta must remain competitive.
“We didn’t have a vision in transports and we didn’t manage in an integrated way the flows of goods that cross Romania, we didn’t manage to somehow integrate in such a way that we would be attractive for someone who wants to consume goods in the center of Europe. However, Romania has an advantage in terms of geography compared to the ports of Western Europe”, said Laurenţiu Mironescu, executive director of the maritime towing company COREMAR within ZF LIVE.
The total traffic of goods in Romanian seaports last year amounted to over 92.5 million tons, plus 22.5% compared to 75.5 million tons in 2022, a record level, according to officials of the National Company Administration of Constanța Maritime Ports.
“92 million tons of cargo is the all-time high so far. Before the Revolution, there were 62.4 million tons of goods”. Constanţa Port has the capacity to process 120 million tons of goods.
