A portion of the ceiling of a supermarket in Bucharest collapsed, on Thursday, on top of a 70-year-old woman. The victim was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, and ten other people left the premises. The shop was closed.

UPDATE: “We express our regret for the incident that took place today, March 28, in the premises where our Supeco store operates, located on Liviu Rebreanu Street in Sector 3 of the Capital. During working hours, in the entrance area of the store, above the vegetable and fruit section, a piece of plasterboard ceiling was detached.

Internally, we promptly took all measures to mitigate this incident, urgently alerting the competent authorities. Unfortunately, a customer who was shopping in that area was surprised by the fall of the respective portion”, Supeco said in a press release on Thursday.

According to the document, which cites representatives of the ISU, the woman suffered minor injuries, being transported to the “Sf. Pantelimon”, where he received medical care and is in a stable condition.

“Our colleagues are in direct contact with the client, offering her all the necessary support for a complete and quick recovery. We thank the intervention teams and bodies that came to the scene and quickly took the necessary steps in such situations.

Next, since the safety of our customers and employees is a priority and a permanent concern for us, we have initiated an internal investigation to determine the circumstances of this incident. Also, since the space in which the store operates is rented, our team informed the owner about what happened”, the press release also states.
