“We did not receive the approval from the Environment. We are seeking understanding from the Ministry”

The municipality planned to set up a theme park at the exit from Sibiu to Rășinari – a new space for spending free time, where concerts and festivals can also be organized. The project is, for now, stuck in the drawer, and that’s because the approval from the Environment Agency could not be obtained.

An emblematic park, where nature is treated with respect and is enhanced so that the people of Sibiu can enjoy a new place to relax, to enjoy leisure activities, concerts and festivals – this is what the municipality wanted build in the Dumbrava Forest, on the site of the former weapons depot at the exit to Rășinari. Three years ago, the concept that specialists in the field worked on was also presented. On the generous plot of 181,000 square meters, two important areas would have been created: one for open-air concerts and festivals, with a permanent stage, served by an amphitheater, intended as a versatile space for different types of events, and another park-like area with creative workshops, spaces for digital creation labs and a fantasy area.

The project did not receive environmental approval, which is why, for now, things have stalled. The municipality sought help from the Ministry of the Environment, hoping that the project could become a reality. Astrid Fodor spoke about this topic during the launch conference of the FDGR candidates for the local elections. “The scene in the forest was a project that I really wanted, because we are a cultural city and I think that Sibiu deserves such a scene. We have many cultural events and we could decongest this area for another kind of concerts. We could not implement it because we did not receive the approval from the Environment for the reasons that it is a nature reserve. At the level of the leadership of the ministry, you find more openness and I made memos in this regard, because in fact there is a construction site there, maybe we can find an understanding so that we can start that project as well. It would be a very beneficial project, especially for the youth, for event organizers. It’s not up to you, how much you’d like. We have made a Master Plan and we are sitting with it in the drawer”, said Astrid Fodor.
