According to the sentence handed down by the Bucharest Military Court, the 49-year-old paramedic, who has the rank of deputy platoon leader in the Emergency Situations Inspectorate “Dealul Spirii” Bucharest – Ilfov, received a 5-year prison sentence for sexual assault in continued form, 3 months in prison for illegal access to a computer system and one year in prison for tampering with the integrity of computer data.

Following the merger of the sentences, the military court sentenced him to 5 years and 5 months in prison. In addition, the paramedic was banned from holding public office for three years after serving his sentence. Also, for three years after leaving prison, he is prohibited from approaching the victim at a distance of less than 100 meters.

The victim received no compensation. She did not ask the court for damages, but only for the punishment of the aggressor. With the sentencing, the judges informed the 35-year-old woman that she can apply for a European protection order against her aggressor after he is released from prison.

The decision handed down on Thursday by the Bucharest Military Court is not final and can be appealed.

The man, Claudiu Gheorghiță Delciu, has been under house arrest since August last year.

The patient was allegedly sexually assaulted both at home and in the ambulance

The non-commissioned officer was charged after on the night of June 8, 2023, a patient who arrived at the Elias Hospital complained that the SMURD employee touched her in the intimate areas and made sexual gestures both in the home and in the ambulance. She told investigators that she was unable to react due to her poor health.

According to the prosecutors, the deviant behavior of the paramedic was also observed by the other two crewmates. One of them caught the man “massaging the patient’s breasts with an ice cube.” On the way to the hospital, they let him ride next to the patient, even though that was the crew chief’s job.

According to the indictment, the paramedic’s two colleagues would have tacitly accepted the hypothesis that the paramedic could have sexually assaulted the patient on the way to the hospital, having fun. When the ambulance driver noticed that the light was off in the ambulance’s cabin and his colleague was not in the seat, he asked the colleague on his right: “What is Delciu (defendant paramedic – no) doing there?”.

“The witness (crew commander – no) looked into the patient compartment and told him that the defendant Delciu Claudiu Gheorghiță “sucked” the injured person, putting ice on her “body, breasts and nipples”. After learning that the patient alerted the authorities, paramedic Delciu stole the recording from the video camera located inside the ambulance and deleted it, being convinced that this way he would escape prosecution”, say the prosecutors.
