“Romania will issue unified (Schengen) visas starting on March 31, 2024. Unified visas issued after this date will allow entry into the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period,” the Romanian diplomatic mission said.

In the statement to TASS it is also said that “all consular offices on the territory of the Russian Federation” will receive Schengen visa applications, being those in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don.

The embassy specified that tourists will be able to use the visas issued until March 31, 2024 for the entire duration of their validity only for entering Romania, but also based on the provisions established in EU Decision no. 565/2014. “For example, a foreign citizen who has a double or multiple entry visa issued by Romania before March 31, 2024 will be able to travel on the basis of a Romanian visa to Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus,” the embassy informed.

Thus, in response to a request from TASS, it was clarified that if holders of short-term visas issued by Romania before March 31 intend to enter one of the Schengen countries, they will have to apply for a visa in the country of final destination .

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Bucharest published a statement on the institution’s website stating that “starting on March 31, 2024, the Romanian authorities will issue Schengen visas. They will allow holders to travel in the Schengen area, for stays that do not exceed a period of 90 days in any 180-day period”.

And the Embassy of Bulgaria in the Russian Federation confirmed to TASS that Bulgaria will start issuing Schengen visas to Russians after April 1, 2024.
