Pensions will not increase for all retirees. 3,000,000 will receive a few hundred lei more in retirement and even 2,000 lei, as Newsweek presented in the examples.

Instead, the remaining 2,000,000 pensioners will have their pensions frozen. In the wake of the recalculation, they should have lower pensions. It’s just that, the pension law says that those who should have lower pensions after the recalculation, will stay with the current pension.

There is no recipe that says which pensions will increase or which will decrease. The head of the Pension House, Daniel Baciu, revealed to a TV station which pensioners would be advantaged in the recalculation.

“Pensioners who benefited from a large correction index will have smaller increases, those who did not benefit from a correction index will benefit from larger increases. It matters a lot what the level of contributions was, the professional history”, said Daniel baciu on a psot TV.

To see who benefited from a higher correction index or who did not benefit at all, we must see the record of the indices from the Pension House.

The document with the evolution of the correction index is HERE

We don’t have correction index before 2011, so retirees before this year should have higher pension increase.

The largest correction index was in the period 2020-2024. So – according to Faniel Baciu’s statements – they would have the smallest pension increases upon recalculation.

Huge pension with over 100 contribution points

The level of contributions is very important to how pensions grow. Newsweek Romania gave the example of a pensioner who, upon recalculation, will have a pension of over 10,000 lei.

He has 113 points scored.

Because he has contributed 39 years he will receive the following settlement points: 5X0.5 + 5X 0.75 + 4 = 10.25 points.

In total, he will have a pension of: 123.5 points X 81 lei reference point = 10,0003 lei gross. vYou will pay 10% of what exceeds 2,000 lei, i.e. a tax of 800 lei. The pensioner will receive a net pension of 9,200 lei.

You should know that those who have worked for a long time, especially those who have worked for more than 35 years, have a large pension. The pension recalculation offers bonus points to those who have worked for over 25 years.

Recalculation: VPR x Total Points

VPR = 81 lei

Number of points = contributory points + stability assimilated and non-contributory periods.

Non-contributory points: Years spent in the military, unemployed or in college (0.25 points each year).

Stability points:

– 0.50 points/year, for working years 26 – 30

– 0.75 points/year, for working years 31 – 35, inclusive;

1 point/year, for over 35 years of work.

Work groups
a) 0.25 points per year in which they carried out activities in places classified in the II work group.

b) 0.50 points for each year in which they carried out activities in places included in work group I.
