Porn images, displayed at the debate on the draft law for Romania’s cyber defense. MCDI: An unfortunate situation

A collage of images with explicit content for adults was displayed on the screen that ensured the connection with the online participants, connected to the debate via the Zoom platform, at a debate on the draft Law for the security and cyber defense of Romania. The debate was organized by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization.

In a press release, the ministry describes the situation as “regrettable”.

“The situation classified as a “security breach” at the debate on the cyber security law, organized today by MCID, is regrettable. Those images were shared on the screen in an abusive manner by one of the participants in the public debate in the online environment, as a result of the full transparency that MCID promotes. Specifically, a participant in the debate, with a fake avatar, accessed the “share screen” option of the ZOOM platform and distributed materials with pornographic content.

In other words, this incident happened in the context where we wanted full transparency, as always. Anyone could access the login link on the ZOOM platform. We organized a public debate well beyond the legal requirements, with a physical and online presence, to give everyone interested a chance to participate. This transparency was exploited by people who treated such an important subject with superficiality”, reports the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization.

However, these deviations will not remain without consequences, states the ministry, which conveys that it will take all the necessary steps to identify the culprits and, subsequently, the related complaints.

“At the same time, we started an internal audit activity to identify those responsible from the MCID. We will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again. We believe that the real news of this day is that Romania is talking transparently and confidently about a sensitive and equally important subject: the draft law on Romania’s cyber security, a milestone in the PNRR and a subject of strategic interest. Moreover, today’s situation confirms how important and necessary this legislative approach is. We thank those who chose to treat this debate seriously”, the ministry also transmitted.
