Jihad Remmo (24 years old) knew about the spectacular burglary in the treasury of the Green Vault. But on Wednesday, the member of the notorious clan with headquarters in Berlin was acquitted by the District Court in Dresden, “for lack of evidence”.

According to the prosecution, on the night of the historic theft Jihad was supposed to lead three of the 5 perpetrators, including his brother and cousin, to the agreed meeting point. Police stopped the car and found a crowbar and two bolt cutters in the trunk.

The investigation found, however, that the police stop was illegal.. “Even if the defendant considered it possible that others were planning a crime, this is not enough for the prosecution”, explained the president-judge.

Because he was in custody for 3 weeks after his arrest, Jihad Remmo was also awarded full state compensation of €75 per day of imprisonment, more than €1,500.

In court, Jihad wore €850 Dior sneakers and a “only” €590 Givenchy sweater.

How can he afford this? Unclear, writes Bild. During the trial, Remmo stated that he has been a salesman in a pharmacy since 2018, where he is paid approximately 14 euros per hour.

How the “Robbery of the Century” Happened

On November 25, 2019, before dawn, two people fraudulently entered through a barred window into Dresden’s opulent Grünes Gewölbe (Green Vault), nicknamed the “Treasure Museum”, smashed a display case with an ax and left with diamonds and other jewels. The action, in which four other accomplices participated, lasted only a few minutes.

The thieves stole 21 jewels with a total of 4,300 diamonds and a value of over 113 million euros. They also caused material damage of over one million euros.

The thieves returned the pieces to authorities through their lawyers on Friday, December 16, after “a deal with the prosecution” for lighter sentences.

However, some of the most valuable pieces are still missing. Experts suspect that the diamonds were cut for retail sale.

Starting in 1723, August II the Strong, former king of Poland and prince-elect of Saxony in the 18th century, stored in this museum, built in the 16th century, his personal collection of jewels and works of Renaissance and Baroque art.

The museum is famous for its jewelry collection, one of the most important in Europe, composed of objects made of precious metals, porcelain, sculptures in ivory or amber, bronze or set with jewels.

After the renovation of the museum in 2004, the collections of old objects were stored on the ground floor, where the theft was committed, and the first floor hosts temporary exhibitions.
