  • Several Japanese companies have unveiled the world’s first 6G high-speed device prototype.
  • 6G technology has been tested on a single device and is not yet a commercially viable network.
  • The prototype can achieve speeds of 100 Gbps indoors using the 100 gigahertz (GHz) band and outdoors using the 300 GHz band.

Several Japanese companies have recently launched the world’s first high-speed 6G device prototype. It can transmit data at a speed of 100 gigabits per second (Gbps), covering more than 100 meters. It’s 20 times stronger than 5G.

The prototype device was the result of collaboration between Japan’s leading telecommunications companies, including DOCOMO, NTT Corporation, NEC Corporation and Fujitsu.

The consortium announced successful test results on April 11, where the companies revealed that the prototype device can achieve speeds of 100 Gbps indoors using the 100 gigahertz (GHz) band and outdoors using the 300 GHz band.

6G technology has been tested on a single device and is not yet a commercially viable network.

Currently, 5G is considered the benchmark in terms of connectivity, with a theoretical maximum speed of 10 Gbps. However, actual speeds for T-Mobile users in the US typically average around 200 megabits per second (Mbps).
