A Polish judge fled to Belarus and requested political asylum. In Poland, he was involved in a scandal involving blackmail and the discrediting of other judges, states Nexta TV.

The state media agency Belta in Belarus organized a press conference with judge Tomasz Szmydt, who claimed that he was forced to leave Poland due to disagreement with the actions of the Polish authorities. The mass media and the Polish authorities have not commented on the situation until now.

Judge at the Administrative Court of Warsaw, Tomasz Szmydt told the reasons why he fled Poland: “Why did I come here? It is an expression of protest against the way in which the policy towards Belarus and Russia is conducted. Due to the fact that I am here, I can express myself freely. The situation is such that America wants to draw Poland into a war, into a conflict zone”.

He said he was “persecuted and threatened for his independent political position”. Szmydt mentioned that he is officially resigning and that the resignation letter will be sent through the Belarusian embassy in Warsaw.

During the conference, the fugitive praised Lukasenko: “I would like to allow myself to directly address the president Alexander Lukasenko. I am very sorry for my audacity, but I will allow myself to ask for the guardianship, protection of the president and Belarus in general”.

Tomasz Szmydt was involved in a trial in Poland in connection with the so-called “hater scandal”. Together with his ex-wife, Emilia Szmydt, and the judge Arkadiusz Tihotski, they published information on the “Little Emmy” account that slandered those who opposed the reform of the judicial system at that time.

This is not the first case in which Polish citizens flee to Belarus and ask for asylum there.

Two years ago, during the migration crisis on the border between Poland and Belarus, Polish military officer Emil Czeczko fled to Belarus. The deserter climbed the fence and asked for political asylum in this country. In an interview given to Belarusian propagandists, he told how Polish border guards allegedly shot migrants, and he personally took part in this. Four and a half months after the desertion, he hanged himself. It is worth noting that yesterday was exactly 2 years since Chechko’s funeral.
