King Charles’ toilet requests, Kate Middleton’s secret life, a row in the royal bedroom and many other details of the British royal family’s private life have been revealed in a book about life behind palace walls.

titled The Palace Papersthe book written by Tina Brown contains information gathered from more than 120 sources and insiders, the author exploring everything from the monarch’s requests regarding the furnishing of the space where even the king walks alone, to his desire to have shoelaces ironed
The Princess of Wales’ difficult relationship with Meghan Markle is also mentioned in the book, published in 2022, as well as visits “SECRET” of Kate in galleries and museums to her “nourish the inner life.”
Author Tina Brown states that Charles was “desperate” with the approval of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, but, according to some insiders, he was “too helpless, emotional and vulnerable for his late mother”.
This is because Queen Elizabeth had a fighter nature, inclined more towards rationalism, pragmatism, responsibility and duty than towards the emotional area. A source stated: “The arts, charitable causes not shrouded in a rigid sense of duty, all these are anathema to her.”
As for Prince Philip, insiders revealed that he was also concerned that his son did not have “king’s cloth”.
Relations between the former Fab Four were strained from the beginning
The book also talks about the former Fab Four, as the two royal couples were also called, after their first event together.

The author claims that the rumored spat with Angela Kelly, the Queen’s assistant and friend, arose after Meghan struggled to “perceives the difference between the Queen’s personal assistant and a contract stylist at NBC Universal.”
According to inside sources, including the tiara Meghan chose on her wedding day sparked a row with the Queen’s assistant, which Harry ended by saying “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.”
The former Suits actress has also been accused of shouting at staff, while another insider says both Harry and Meghan are addicted to drama.
King Charles brings his own furniture
Tina Brown also states in her book that Charles would have sent a van with his belongings to his friends’ country houses the day before to unload “the bed, the furniture and even the photos.”

Tina Brown also delves into the relationship between Harry and his father, in The Palace Papersrevealing that they mainly communicate through private offices.
Harry was also accused in the book of having “resentment” towards Camilla and was not pleased that she had converted his old bedroom at Highgrove House Gloucestershire into a dressing area. In relation to this episode, Tina Brown writes that Harry would be
“unsettling her with long silences and resentful looks” when they first met, while his older brother Prince William stayed behind
“on guard“.
