The purchase will be paid for by Tallinn with EU funds accessed through the European Peace Facility – the same mechanism that supports Ukraine.

Katri Raudsepp, head of the department of the State Defense Investment Center of Estonia, announced that she will buy non-lethal military equipment for the Armed Forces of Moldova, Newsmaker.md reports.

“The European Union supports Moldova from 2021, including integration into the processes within NATO and the European Union. We do this through the European Peace Facility, which aims to support EU foreign policy and international security in general,” she said.

According to Raudsepp, the Center has already signed the first contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Czech arms company ERA for the purchase of a passive radar system.

The acquisition should greatly improve the country’s air defense capabilities and facilitate airspace monitoring. Estonia uses similar radars, writes the Estonian publication ERR.

Although the type of radar equipment that will be provided to the Republic of Moldova is not specified, it is possible that a variant is the model VERA ISin the possession of the Estonian Army, a system designed to detect, locate, track and identify air, land and naval targets.

Through Estonia, Moldova will also purchase armored vehicles or electronic jamming equipment.

We remind you that last year, the Republic of Moldova received several armored personnel carriers from Germany Piranha 3 unarmed.

Also, at the end of last year, the Republic of Moldova received a radar system from the French company Thales. It is most likely the radar Ground Master 200.

The Transnistrian separatists then complained in the Russian press that we were witnessing an effort to “arm” the Republic of Moldova, which is a neutral state.

Moscow’s propaganda repeatedly tries to validate the idea that the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova means a practically non-existent Army – as the military forces of the Republic of Moldova have shown for three decades.
