2:06 p.mThe Lithuanian military has not and is not taking any hostile action against other states, a spokesman said in response to claims by Belarusian officials.

13:52 “I don’t know why they chose the (western) Kobrin district, they talk a lot about it. (They plan to) capture it … and call on NATO to deploy troops,” Lukashenko told the Belarusian People’s Assembly. It is unclear whether Lukashenko provided any evidence for such a plan, Reuters notes.

All the main opposition figures in Belarus are in prison or have been forced into exile. Lukashenko, a key ally of President Vladimir Putin, has frequently cited the danger of an attack from NATO or Ukraine as justification for keeping his military and security apparatus on constant alert.

Belarus claims that a drone attack on Minsk was attempted from Lithuania

“The State Security Committee, in cooperation with colleagues from other law enforcement agencies, recently carried out a series of acute security measures, which made it possible to prevent strikes by combat drones from the territory of Lithuania on targets in Minsk and the suburbs his,” Belarusian security chief Ivan Tertel was quoted as saying by the RIA news agency.

He did not provide any evidence to support his claims.

According to Tertel, law enforcement continues to act in this area, but “it is not yet possible to provide the public with detailed information.”

Lukashenko: The opposition wants to conquer a district and ask for NATO’s help

President Alexander Lukashenko claimed on Thursday that the opposition in Belarus plans to seize a district in the west of the country and ask NATO to deploy troops, the Russian news agency RIA also reports.

Russian news agencies carried a series of statements by Lukashenko on several topics on Thursday, including that he said the risk of military incidents along his country’s border with Ukraine is quite high.

Also, according to RIA, Lukashenko said that neighboring Poland – to the west of his country – should not expect aggressive actions from Belarus.

However, he added, Belarus has moved several combat-ready battalions from the Vitebsk region, located on its border with Russia, to the western part of the country.

According to TASS, Alexander Lukashenko claimed on Thursday that “dozens” of Russian tactical nuclear weapons have been deployed in Belarus under the deal with Vladimir Putin last year.

Also on the subject of nuclear weapons, he said that if Russia were to use them in retaliation for Western actions, an “apocalypse” could occur.

On the other hand, Lukashenko said that he sees an impasse on the Ukrainian front line, and this means that there are the necessary prerequisites for the start of peace negotiations.
