Today the electoral campaign begins, according to the calendar for the organization and conduct of the poll from June 9, 2024, when the European parliamentary and local elections will take place.

Aspirants for the positions of president of the Tulcea County Council and mayor of the municipality were able to submit their candidacies for the local elections from June 9, 2024 until April 30. The electoral offices recorded on Wednesday, May 8, the fact that the candidacies for the elections for the local public administration authorities remained final.

Thus, all seven registered candidates remained in the race for the position of president of the County Council. It is about Marcel Ivanov – REPER, Horia Teodorescu – PSD, Aurel Nane – SOS, Eugen Terente – United Right Alliance, George Şişcu – PNL, Mircea Sorin Zaharcu – AUR and Ioan Gosav – National Peasant Alliance.

Regarding the list of councilors for the County Council, the candidacies of eight parties remained final for the 30 mandates. It is about the Union of Ukrainians from Romania with 5 candidates, REPER with 18 candidates, the Social-Democratic Party with 38 candidates, the National Liberal Party with 37 candidates, the SOS Romania Party with 12 candidates, the United Right Alliance with 38 candidates, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians all with 38 candidates and the National Peasant Alliance with 8 candidates. The United Right Alliance list is opened by Victor Tarhon, the president of PMP.

The six registered candidates for the position of mayor of Tulcea remained final: Dragoş Simion – PSD, Valentin-Georgel Scarlat – REPER, Octavian Motoc – Alianţa Dreapta Unită, Cristian Anton – SOS, Ştefan Ilie – PNL and Lucian Furdui – AUR.

Regarding the competition for the 21 mandates of the Tulcea Local Council, seven political formations submitted lists of candidates. It is about the Social Democratic Party, REPER, the United Right Alliance, the SOS Romania Party, the National Liberal Party, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians and the Union of Ukrainians in Romania with only one candidate, Gheorghe Munteanu.

Analyzing the documents, I noticed that Dragoş Simion, the PSD candidate for the position of mayor of the municipality of Tulcea, is not on the list of local councilors of the party.

Also, we have only one independent candidate for the position of local councilor of the municipality of Tulcea, Marian Machedon. We remind you that in 2020, Marian Machedon ran unsuccessfully for the position of president of the Tulcea County Council.

If PNL, PSD, AUR and ADU each have 27 names on the list for the positions of councilors of the municipality of Tulcea, the party Renew the European Project of Romania (REPER) has only 7 candidates on the list, while SOS Romania has 5, and the Union Ukrainians in Romania have only one candidate on the list for the position of local councilor. As for the candidates for the position of local councilor from the United Right Alliance, 14 are from USR, 12 are from Forţa Dreptei and only one from PMP.

4 years ago, in the local elections of 2020, we had 9 candidates for the position of mayor of the municipality, two of whom were women. This year it seems that no woman found the necessary support for a candidacy for the position of mayor of Tulcea.

The electoral campaign for the local and European parliamentary elections on June 9 started today, May 10, and will end on June 8, at 7:00 a.m. The local elections will be held on June 9, the same day as the European Parliament elections.
