The little we settle for

The first time I heard about AUR was during the 2020 election campaign. Then, the self-titled “patriots” bet on surprise and appeared like a boil on the skin of the Romanian political class, leaving us to wonder where they got those eight percent purulent in those parliamentary elections. These days I have the same feeling, that the GOLD is gone. Well, AUR’s lack of visibility also comes from the regulation made by the big televisions, where the government budgeting makes PSD and PNL almost the only parties that we could believe exist in Romania. A matter not very democratically healthy, but let’s face it, aesthetically correct in the case of AUR or Sosoacă.

Then, maybe we don’t look in the right place either, not lowering the level so much as to access niche, almost sectarian televisions, where feeding the voter with all kinds of ideas and fake news leads to a psychiatric pathology. In the midst of this quiet about GOLD you get the chills. The surprise is repeated, but starting not from zero percent, but from over 15% with which the party inflated in the polls? Is the tiktok and social media campaign that hidden disease we’re all afraid we’ll find out too late? Do you find yourself with them at around 30%?, that’s how the fears of a “non-patriot” looking to go to vote looked. I don’t think it will work the same way this time.

The feeling is that the AUR has abandoned some elections in which it considers that it does not have much chance, preferring to budget for more visible electoral efforts, such as those in the fall, the parliamentary ones. Why raise a mayor, make him a great “patriot”, and in four years run for another seat? Why scatter in so many small and very small local elections, when you can put up banners with Mihai Viteazu, Vlad Țepeș or Mircea cel Bătrân, the only mayors that Alfred Simonis can no longer take to PSD for a Duster?

Otherwise, live on social networks, on the superficiality of the simple man, on his inability to think more than George Simion wants to tell him. I haven’t heard much about the sovereignists in this campaign, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist through other means of communication. We know that Mrs. Diana had an argument with Mr. Sylvester and that’s all. We also learn that an AUR candidate from Buzău left her because the party would be the biggest poison for the Romanian electorate, as if she suddenly woke up wiser. Then, that theirs from “Six” makes Simion “Trash” because he put his candidates on the list, not those who worked for the “mayor” in the campaign. That they would have problems at the electoral office with the registration of the alliance, well, some crap that we’re wasting our time with.

It was predictable that they would fall out with each other, that they would suspect that each other was working for the PSD, that they were in cahoots with the Parallel State, that they were selling eligible places for good money, too little about complicity with Russia, because that would already be a cause for praise for some Romanian “patriots”, isn’t it? All the joy we can get from GOLD is to fade into irrelevance as they came. We will be happy that PSD and PNL saved Romania, we will be happy that the European Commission will take care of our deficits, that it will turn a blind eye to the failure to reform the state… We will be satisfied with so little.
