The first bills for gas and electricity were issued in April, and compared to the maximum price stipulated by the ceiling, the invoiced prices are up to 25% lower, and those for electricity by 15%.
“As a result of the application of the new changes to the energy and gas price capping mechanism at the end of March, the prices of natural gas invoices decreased in April by 25%, and those of electricity by 15%, in the face of the maximum capped prices “, declared Marcel Ciolacu at the beginning of Thursday’s Government meeting.
According to Ciolacu, this aspect proves that the Government’s intervention was beneficial for Romanians.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Energy, for example, the price charged by the main supplier of natural gas for domestic consumers is 0.23381 lei/kWh (the maximum capped price is 0.310 lei/kWh).
For electricity, for household customers with a consumption of more than 300 kWh/month, the reductions applied by the main suppliers reach up to 15% compared to the maximum price of 1.3 lei/kWh.
“We promised lower electricity and natural gas bills. I remind you that on March 28 I publicly declared, after the Government meeting, that Romanians will receive lower energy bills. I firmly and well-groundedly supported based on the analyzes we did and which we promoted by updating the compensation-ceiling mechanism (EOG 27/2022)”, said the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, quoted in the press release.
Burduja also conveyed that “the state must intervene where it is necessary, when it is necessary and how it is necessary” and that “there is no need to overturn an entire system, but to calculate, analyze and apply head on”.
Eurostat confirmed the other day that the prices paid for electricity and natural gas by Romanians are among the lowest in the EU.
