Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu emphasized on the occasion of Europe Day that, by joining the European Union, Romania strengthened its independence and gained its stability.

“By joining the European Union, Romania strengthened its independence and gained the stability and security necessary to develop and provide Romanians with a chance for a better future. The road to European integration was not easy, but after 17 years of accession, our country finally manages to behave maturely and take advantage of European opportunities”, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu sent on Facebook.
The Prime Minister claimed that “the absorption rate of over 97% of the funds intended for cohesion policy for the funding period that has just ended demonstrates that we have managed to use European opportunities to develop infrastructure and have better public services for Romanians”.
During Thursday’s government meeting, the prime minister also emphasized that the best way to celebrate “is effectively using all available European money to modernize the country”.
“However, our European path is only at the beginning. We are in Schengen with air and sea borders, but this year we must do justice to the end and have full membership. Today, on Europe Day, we must draw a line and see what we have achieved but also see what needs to be done in the future for Romania to be stronger and more influential in the European Union. And I strongly believe that we have found the way to count more in Europe. The European Union is our home, the home of a Romania that proudly asserted its independence in 1877, which allows us to wish all Romanians a sincere and well-deserved Happy Birthday!“, Marcel Ciolacu also wrote.
