According to reports, Savitri Kumar and her husband Ravi Kumar, 27, had a heated argument during which the latter allegedly repeatedly ordered his wife to throw the baby in the river. Police revealed that the man often criticized the woman’s decision to give birth to a disabled child.
On Saturday evening, following a new argument, Savitri Kumar felt extremely disturbed and, according to her statements, under the mental pressure exerted by her husband, threw her son into a waste canal that flows into the Kali river, inhabited by crocodiles. The incident happened around 9:00 p.m., as darkness complicated rescue efforts by authorities.
“After an argument over the same issue escalated on Saturday evening, Savitri allegedly threw her son into a waste canal linked to the crocodile-infested Kali River around 9 pm,” said Superintendent of Police Krishna Barakeri.
Savitri stated that her husband tortured her mentally and told her to throw the baby in the canal. “My husband is in charge. He always said that it is better to let him die, that all he does is eat. “Leave it as it is,” I told him. But if my husband keeps saying this, how much torture can my child endure? Where will I go to share my pain?”she allegedly told the police, reports the Daily Mail.
The neighbors requested the help of the authorities
Neighbors, who witnessed the scene, immediately alerted the police, who sent divers to search for the missing boy. On Sunday morning, the child’s body was found in the river, showing bite marks all over his body and missing a hand, a sign that he had been attacked and torn apart by crocodiles.
Authorities’ investigation revealed that both the child’s mother and father were arrested on murder charges. The incident shocked the entire community and raised questions about the need to provide support and assistance to families facing the challenges of caring for children with special needs.
