The prices of industrial production as a whole (domestic market and foreign market) decreased by 7.9% in March 2024, compared to March 2023, and by 1.8% compared to the previous month, according to the data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the quoted source, at the level of the domestic market, the price index of industrial production registered a decrease of 2.52% in March, compared to February 2024, respectively 10.93% compared to March of the previous year.

Regarding the foreign market, in March compared to February, the prices of industrial production were higher by 0.15%, and compared to the same month of the previous year, there was an increase of 0.53%.

On the major industrial groups, in March 2024, compared to March 2023, increases in industrial production prices were recorded in: capital goods industry (+6.23%), consumer goods industry (3.96%) and goods industry of long-term use (+1.76%). In the intermediate goods industry, a decrease of 4.16% was recorded, and in the energy industry a decrease of 22.43%.

Compared to the reference period, INS data reveal that, by activity section, prices increased in water distribution, sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (+16.53%) and in the manufacturing industry (1.05%). Conversely, there were decreases in the extractive industry (-7.9%) and in the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy, gas, hot water and air conditioning (26.6%).
