The patient of doctor Demetrian died. Police are investigating manslaughter

The woman from Caracal, who arrived in a serious condition at the hospital last month, died after an intervention performed by doctor Alin Demetrian. In this case, a criminal case was opened for manslaughter, IPJ Dolj announces.

The woman arrived at the Craiova Emergency County Clinical Hospital, immediately after the intervention performed in a private clinic in the city. She remained hospitalized from April 4, until May 3, when she died.

“In the continuation of the investigations regarding the event that took place in the evening of April 4 this year, as a result of which a 52-year-old woman, from the municipality of Caracal, Olt county, allegedly went into cardio-respiratory arrest following an endoscopic exploration intervention, on 03.05. Her death occurred in 2024. Considering the evidence administered so far, in conjunction with the preliminary medico-legal conclusions, as well as the suspicion of a case of medical malpractice, the investigations will be continued under the aspect of committing the crime of manslaughter, and upon their completion, a thorough solution will be proposed and legal, through the competent prosecution unit”, says IPJ Dolj.

On April 4, a 52-year-old woman from Caracal arrived at SCJU Craiova, in serious condition, following an endoscopic exploration intervention performed by doctor Alin Demetrian.

Doctor Alin Demetrian, former manager of SCJU Craiova and former head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the medical unit, was sent to court for manslaughter in January of this year, also due to medical interventions in which patients died .

“On 13.09.2019, as the main operating physician, performing his duties at the Craiova County Emergency Clinical Hospital, as a result of non-compliance with the measures stipulated for the exercise of the medical profession, thoracic surgery specialty, Demetrian Alin-Dragoş improperly performed a Carlens-type anterior cervical mediastinoscopy on the BD patient during which he accidentally severed the patient’s right brachiocephalic trunk, causing a massive external hemorrhage that led, on the morning of 09/14/2019, to the patient’s violent death , between the medical act performed by the defendant and the death of the patient, there being a direct causal link”, say the prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Craiova Court.
