Ștefan Velea, a young man of Romanian origin, only 20 years old and born in Ascoli Piceno, Marche region of Italy, met his end in a car accident on the night of Saturday to Sunday, May 5, 2024, from Orthodox Easter celebration.
The tragedy happened after his car, an Opel Corsa, hit the parapet of a bridge on the border between the Marche and Abruzzo regions, then went off the road and fell from a height of more than 10 meters.
Specifically, the accident took place between the towns of Lisciano and Santa Maria a Corte, near Gabbiano, Teramo province.
His parents, who noticed that their son did not return home even in the morning, were the ones who raised the first alarm and went to look for him with other relatives.
The car was found by an uncle around 10:00 a.m. after the man followed the tracks of a terrible impact on the parapet of a brick bridge along Provincial Road 54 and then into the watercourse below near the hamlet of Gabbiano.
The terrifying scenes shocked family members, friends and emergency crews who arrived at the scene.
The car was found overturned in the rubble, and the young man’s body was trapped between the contorted beasts.

The complex recovery operations were carried out by the firemen, and the lifeless body of Ștefan was transported in the afternoon of the same day to the morgue of the “Mazzoni” hospital in Ascoli, after the prosecutor gave the necessary opinion.
The Carabinieri are now investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, to establish its causes and responsibilities.
The young Romanian is survived by his grieving parents, sisters and younger brother, as well as relatives, friends and colleagues who sent countless messages of condolences on Facebook.
