Electoral scandal in Alba. AUR accuses PNL of illegally changing the lists submitted for the local elections

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians announced that it filed a criminal complaint against the president and deputy of BEC Şugag for the crime of forgery in documents, after PNL representatives modified the lists submitted for the local elections, according to News.ro.

“After illegally and unconstitutionally merging the European parliamentary elections with the local ones, in the hope that they will retain their functions, PSD and PNL continue the series of illegalities. In Alba county, in Şugag commune, we have the clearest example in this regard. The procedure for submitting candidacies and their approval is clear, but not for Romanian citizens. In the Şugag commune, the PNL decided to act against the law. On April 27, 2024, when the President of the local organization AUR submitted his candidacy, he noticed that the list proposed by the PNL for the Sugag Local Council did not have representatives of both sexes. He took a photo of the list published on the BEC Şugag display where Avram Dumitru appeared as a candidate in position 14, without there being a Decision of the BEC Şugag to accompany it. The president and the deputy had the legal obligation to convene the entire Electoral Circumscription Bureau within 24 hours from the registration of the PNL candidacy and to adopt a unanimous decision”, states the AUR in a press release.

The party led by George Simion claims that on Tuesday, representatives of the liberal formation changed the list with the help of BEC members.

“Subsequently, on April 30, 2024, PNL representatives, with the complicity of the president and the deputy, changed the list of candidates for the election of the Şugag local council, and the 14th position was occupied by Avram Maria, the list having the same registration date, April 25, 2024 , but this time with a decision of BEC Şugag that accompanied it”, AUR claims.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians accuses that the name of a candidate was replaced by that of a woman.

“Consequently, on April 30, 2024, BEC Şugag Decision no. 3 was falsely signed, admitting the candidacy of the PNL in which it appears at position no. 14 Avram Maria instead of AVRAM DUMITRU. All candidacy proposals had to be analyzed within a maximum of 24 hours from registration, in the case of PNL until April 26, 2024 at the latest, and changing the members of the lists has a special procedure, not by changing the list to a fake one. Also, all decisions had to be adopted within 24 hours, by no means after 5 days, on April 30, 2024”, says AUR.

AUR Alba notified this violation of the law and filed a criminal complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Alba Court against the president of BEC Şugag and the deputy of BEC Şugag for committing the acts of falsifying electoral documents and records, as well as falsifying material in official documents, all these facts committed with the complicity of the auxiliary staff from the Şugag City Hall.

“We cannot close our eyes to such abuses against Romanian laws. There is no such thing as for some the law is a mummy and for others a plague. All the crimes were committed to create an advantage for the PNL and to meet the conditions provided by art. 7 paragraph 1 of Law no. 115/2015 regarding the participation of both sexes. We want this year’s elections, even if they were merged illegally and unconstitutionally, to be fair ones, but we see very clearly what the plans of the merged PSD-PNL are: rigging the elections for their own interest, to keep their own positions people. We will not stop here, but we will go all the way in court against the criminal coalition!”, says the formation led by George Simion.
