Romanian students won six medals, including one gold, at the Balkan Mathematics Olympiad, held these days in Bulgaria.

Vlad Titus Spataru, from the International High School of Informatics Bucharest, won the gold medal and the first place with the maximum score, while the silver medals were obtained by David-Andrei Anghel, from the International High School of Informatics Bucharest, Andrei Chiriţă from at Tudor Vianu National College of Informatics Bucharest, Pavel Ciurea, from the International High School of Informatics Bucharest, Aida Mitroi, from the International High School of Informatics Bucharest. Also, Andrei Vila, from the Bucharest International Informatics High School, won the bronze medal, the Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday.

The Romanian team was coordinated by university professor Dr. Cătălin-Liviu Gherghe, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Bucharest (Leader) and accompanied by Professor Ovidiu Şontea from the National College of Informatics Tudor Vianu Bucharest (Deputy).

22 teams from: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Romania and Serbia (member countries) participated in the Olympics, as well as teams from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, France, Georgia , Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Great Britain (invited countries).

The 41st Balkan Mathematical Olympiad takes place from April 27 to May 2, 2024 in Varna, Bulgaria.
