Deputy Cristina Prună (USR) criticizes the triumphalist messages of the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, through which he periodically declares that Romania has among the lowest electricity prices in Europe. What Minister Burduja fails to say is that, relative to purchasing power, i.e. to the reality we live in, Romania has among the highest electricity prices in Europe.

“Mr. Burduja says that we are on the hook for energy prices at the European level. I want to wake him up from my own admiration and bring him to reality in Romania. According to Eurostat data, in the second half of last year, Romania had among the highest electricity prices for household consumers in relation to purchasing power. In other words, Romanians are among the most burdened by the payment of electricity bills”, declares deputy Cristina Prună, vice-president of the Commission for Industries and Services.

According to Eurostat data, in the second half of 2023, Romania ranked 6th in the EU in terms of the price of electricity compared to the purchasing power for household consumers. Also, Romania ranked 9th, respectively in the first third of the EU member states, in terms of the volume of taxes paid by Romanians in the electricity bill and which represented almost 25% of the final price paid by each of us.

“Sebastian Burduja is now making people dizzy with his ‘plan for Bucharest’, and with the energy we understand that that’s all he could do. While he is still a minister, Sebastian Burduja should work seriously for the development of the energy sector. To truly support investments in energy production with rapid impact. To ensure that European funds translate into concrete projects, not just ticks on paper. Let us have fair energy prices, and let them be determined according to supply and demand, not be set from his pen at unrealistic levels, higher than those in the market. Let us have an abundance of energy so that the Romanian industry does not close its doors due to blockages in concluding bilateral contracts with energy producers. These are problems in the energy sector and here we really need to intervene if we want to not just produce waste, as the current minister has been doing for almost a year”, adds deputy Cristina Prună.
