Wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita, will not be allowed to meet him in jail this week, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on Sunday, claiming that a meeting scheduled for Monday has been “abruptly” cancelled.
The party said the Tihar Jail authorities had revoked the permission granted to her to meet Kejriwal. “The scheduled meeting between Sunita Kejriwal and Arvind Kejriwal for tomorrow (Monday) has been abruptly cancelled.
The Tihar Jail administration has failed to provide any reason for the sudden cancellation,” the AAP said in a statement. The party said that as per the Jail Manual, prisoners are allowed two family visits per week.
DG Tihar Jail, Sanjay Beniwal, however, said that only two persons are allowed to meet an inmate per week. Delhi Minister Atishi is scheduled to meet Kejriwal on Monday and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is supposed to pay a visit on Tuesday.
AAP, however, said in a statement: “As per the Delhi Jail Manual, prisoners are allowed to have two family visits weekly. The number of persons who may visit a prisoner during any family visit shall be limited to two.”
Jail officials, for their part, said there was no distinction between family visits and those for others.
