Romania won the gold medals in the women’s double sculls, light category, through Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc, on Saturday, at the European Rowing Championships in Szeged (Hungary).

The Romanians were clocked in 07 min 29 sec 63/100, being followed by the Greeks Dimitra Eleni Kontou and Zoi Fitsiou (07:31.94) and the Italians Valentina Rodini and Silvia Crosio (07:33.73).

Romania also won the silver on Saturday with the female four-frame team of Romania, made up of Mădălina Bereş, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereş.

In the women’s four sculls, Romania (Mariana Dumitru, Emanuela Ciotău, Alexandra Ungureanu and Mădălina Moroşan) took sixth place in the final (06:53.17).

In the final of the men’s four-row event, Cristian Nicoară, Bogdan Băitoc, Florin Horodişteanu and Ioan Prundeanu placed fifth (06:06.96).

At the 2023 edition of the European Championships, held in Bled (Slovenia), Romania won six medals, including five gold and one silver.

Bronze medal in the men’s 8+1 event

Romania’s men’s 8+1 crew won the bronze medals on Saturday at the European Rowing Championships in Szeged (Hungary).

Romania (Mihăiţă Șigănescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Constantin Adam, Mugurel Vasile Semciuc, Florin Arteni, Sergiu Bejan, Ştefan Berariu, Florin Lehaci, Adrian Munteanu) was clocked with a time of 05 min 56 sec 11/100, being overtaken by Great Britain, 05 min 52 sec 90/100, and by Germany, 05 min 55 sec 23/100.

Romania won three medals on Saturday, one gold, one silver and one bronze.

The gold of the tricolors was obtained in the double rowing, light category (Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc), the silver was won in the women’s four frames (Mădălina Bereş, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereş), and the bronze in the women’s 8+1.

Romania qualified 12 crews in the medal finals out of the 13 that Szeged sent. On Sunday, the tricolors will start in the finals in women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s four sculls, women’s four sculls and women’s 8+1.

At the 2023 edition of the European Championships, held in Bled (Slovenia), Romania won six medals, including five gold and one silver.
