Preschoolers, students and teachers will take a vacation today, April 26, after the completion of classes, until Tuesday, May 7, the third day of Easter. Therefore, students will enjoy 11 days off.

Courses in school module 5 start midweek, Wednesday 8 May, until 21 June 2024. For students in 12th day, 13th evening and part-time classes, the school year ends on 7 June 2024.

The summer vacation will be between June 22 and September 8, 2024.

Not only students, but also employees will have more days off during this period, regardless of whether they are budget workers or work privately.

More specifically, budget workers will have a new six-day mini-vacation at the beginning of May. This will include Labor Day, May 1, and will be linked with the Easter holiday after the government decided to keep May 2 off to create a bridge between May 1 and Good Friday, which this year will be on May 3rd.

Careful! Those who do not work for the state will not have a day off on May 2. They will be off on May 1 (Labor Day), then they will go to work on May 2, and from May 3 (Good Friday) they will be off until May 7 (the day after Easter). So, those in the private sector will have a 4-day Easter mini-holiday.

What other mini-vacations are there in 2024

The next mini-holiday that Romanian employees will enjoy will be on Pentecost. Thus, budget workers will have a three-day mini-vacation, from June 22 to 24.

August 15 is also a legal day off, when Romanians celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which will be on a Thursday. For this reason, the Government of Romania decided that Friday, August 16, should also be free for budget workers.

This will be followed by a five-day mini-holiday over Christmas. Given that Christmas (December 25) and the day after Christmas (December 26) will be on Wednesday and Thursday, the Government has decided that Friday, December 27 will also be free for budget workers.

The following legal days off that Romanians still have in 2024 are:

  • June 1 – Children’s Day, Saturday,
  • June 23 – Pentecost, Sunday
  • June 24 – the second day of Pentecost, Monday,
  • August 15 – Dormition of the Mother of God, Thursday,
  • November 30 – Saint Andrew, Saturday,
  • December 1 – National Day of Romania, Sunday,
  • December 25 – the first day off for Christmas, Wednesday,
  • December 26 – the day after Christmas, Thursday.

What fines risk employers who do not comply with the law

According to the legislation in force, the employer is obliged to grant legal days off to employees, with the exception of those who work in sanitary and public catering units, as well as in workplaces where the activity cannot be interrupted due to the nature of the production process or the specifics of the activity .

Employees who cannot benefit from these days off are rewarded for work performed on public holidays with an increase to the basic salary, which cannot be less than 100% of the basic salary corresponding to the work performed during normal working hours.
