HotNews.ro today published the information that the AUR Alliance will not participate in the local elections on June 9, as it was circulated until now and as they were promoted “sovereigns” in the public space.
The president of the Romanian National Conservative Party, Cristian Terheș, stated for the quoted website that the AUR Alliance is in force for the European parliamentary elections, not for local ones.
“In the local elections, we go separately. We are not part of this construction. We are in discussions, today is the last day to submit electoral alliances, but we do not have candidates in all counties. I talked punctually with colleagues from AUR and the Republican Party to make alliances in the local elections as well, but I understood that it is no longer possible”, was the position expressed by Cristian Terheș for Hotnews.ro. The MEP stated that “in many places the decision was made to go separately in order not to raise the electoral threshold to 8%”threshold valid in the case of electoral alliances.
Practically, the AUR Alliance will not exist even at the Cluj County level, and the candidacy will be made on the list of the AUR party, and those from the Republican Party, for example, must register in the AUR to be able to run. Thus, AUR tries to avoid the electoral threshold of 8%, which would have applied in the case of the alliance, a sign that they are not so convinced that they will have a good score.
It remains to be seen what will happen after Mircea Irimie’s republicans enter the AUR and how this will affect the electoral lists for the local elections in Turda, where they were promised “eligible seats” to many, but the electoral reality is far from what was promised.
