Good news for pensioners in Romania. The government could decide, today, the fate of pensions, before the Easter holidays. The draft decision, which would be approved, proposes that the pensions for the month of May be paid in advance.

Normally, pensions are paid through the Romanian Post from the 1st to the 15th of each month, but in May, pensioners could have received their incomes later, pensions could have been delayed, and that’s because of the holidays that the budget holders have.

But today, the Government adopts a decision whereby the payment of pensions will be made earlier, before the Easter holidays, precisely to avoid such problems. Yesterday, the director of the Romanian Post assured all pensioners that they will receive their income on time. We are talking about an important Government meeting, in Timisoara and not in Bucharest, at the Victoria Palace, as we are used to.

A Government meeting through which the executive shows its support for the important projects that this city has and we are talking about the adoption of technical and economic indicators for the Dan Păltinişanu stadium, an important investment worth 200 million euros. However, several important projects from this city will be discussed, for example, the financing of the Oncological Institute, also the construction of the Mari Arşi Hospital, and the rehabilitation of the North Station.

Pensions come earlier in May

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu asked the Minister of Labor, Simona Bucura-Oprescu, to take measures so that pensioners receive their pensions before Easter. “I ask Minister Bucura Oprescu to talk to all the banks in Romania, to see what changes need to be made to the conventions – and with the Romanian Post – so that all pensioners receive their pensions before the Easter holidays”, said the prime minister, in the beginning of the Government session.

The general director of CN Posta Română, Valentin Ştefan, declared, on Wednesday, in a press conference, that CNPR can distribute pensions before the Easter holidays, but the process depends on the date on which it receives the money.

“The short answer is ‘yes, we can deliver the pensions by the holidays’. Now let me give you some details… May 2nd is a working day. We will be working in the company. Secondly, we have the logistical capacity to deliver the pensions by for the holidays. Now, it depends on when the money comes into our accounts from the National Treasury, from the Ministry of Labor. Depending on when we will receive the money, we will know if we will ask the employees to come to work on days off or not, whether we are talking about May 1 or May 3. Basically, if we get the money later, we would only need one non-working day to call them to work to distribute the pensions , but for now we can’t come up with a clear answer, because we don’t know when the money comes into our accounts. If it comes in time, there’s no need; if it comes later, we’ll have to mobilize even better,” he said Stefan Valentin.

He explained that the Post usually receives the pension money a few days before the 1st of the month. Under these conditions, if the money will enter the accounts on Friday, April 26, the pensions will be able to be delivered to the beneficiaries faster. Even if the amounts come in on Monday, all pensions can be taken until the holidays, he assured. According to the general director of the Romanian Post Office, approximately 14,000 employees are involved in the distribution of pensions, of which 10,000 are postmen.
