PNL disputes the registration of the AUR Alliance at the BEC: The electoral war reaches the stage of legal disputes

The electoral war before the local elections of June 9, 2024 entered a new tense stage, with the launch of a contestation operation by the National Liberal Party (PNL) against the registration of the AUR Alliance at the Electoral Offices of Circumscription (BEC). The arguments advanced by the PNL claim that the AUR Alliance, formed by the AUR Party and the Republican Party, does not meet the legal requirements necessary to participate in the upcoming election.

According to the documents obtained by stiripesurse.ro, PNL accuses the AUR Alliance of not respecting the legal deadline for registering the electoral sign at the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), a mandatory step according to Emergency Ordinance no. 21/2024. PNL points out that, according to BEC decisions no. 14H/2024 and no. 25H/2024, the period for registration of electoral signs ended on April 10, 2024, and the absence of the electoral sign at AUR Alliance makes it impossible to register the local electoral alliance protocol.

PNL representatives claim that the lack of electoral sign constitutes a serious enough violation to block the participation of the AUR Alliance in the local elections. They will request the rejection of the alliance’s registration based on the principle of legality, arguing that the absence of a legally registered electoral sign represents a violation of the formal conditions stipulated by Article 6 of GEO No. 21/2024.

The PNL has prepared a detailed appeal, in which it invokes Article 6 of the Emergency Ordinance, which stipulates the mandatory existence of the electoral sign for all parties or alliances participating in the elections. In the absence of the electoral sign registered at the BEC, PNL claims that the AUR Alliance does not meet the formal requirements to be registered and that this aspect is a fundamental condition for the existence of an electoral alliance.

The situation generated a new controversy within the electoral process, and the decision of the BEC regarding the appeal filed by the PNL could have a significant impact on the political balance before the local elections in June. The AUR Alliance is to face the arguments presented by the PNL, in a legal confrontation that could change the local political landscape in the coming period.
