An ambulance driver is charged with manslaughter for a road accident he caused in 2021. The man was on duty when he overtook a line of cars on the continuous line. He fatally injured a female driver, the first in line, who wanted to turn left. Since he only had the light signals on, not the acoustic ones, the ambulance driver was found guilty, writes Monitorul de Suceava.

The accident took place on December 16, 2021, on the E85 road, in Roșiori, Suceava county. The ambulance did not have a patient, but was moving to a case reported by 112, so it was on a mission. At one point, the driver of the ambulance overtook a column of cars, across the continuous line.

The first car in line was driven by a woman, who was turning left at that very moment. Due to the speed, the paramedic could no longer avoid the impact and ran headlong into the car in which two people were.

As a result of the impact, the car was projected into the ditch on the side of the road. The 56-year-old woman died, while her passenger on the right, a 53-year-old man, was slightly injured.

The investigation opened by the police revealed the fact that the ambulance only had its lights on, not the acoustic ones, as required by the procedure. In other words, the ambulance driver, although on a mission, overtook recklessly, and the driver who died in the impact could not realize that the ambulance was coming from behind at high speed.

“Having only light signals in operation, at an intersection with a ‘No Overtaking’ sign and continuous longitudinal marking, he engaged in overtaking a column of vehicles stopped behind a Dacia Logan car, which was making a left turn,” the indictment states of referral to court.

The driver of the autosanitary was checked with the breathalyzer, and the result was 0. In the process, the quoted source writes, the man allegedly tried to invoke an internal regulation that would not have allowed the use of sirens at night, which is against the law, but , the provisions of the road legislation.

The first term in the trial was set for May 15, 2024. Five descendants of the deceased woman became civil parties in the file opened at the Fălticeni Court, the cited source also writes.
