WhatsApp becomes inaccessible on some mobile devices because OS updates require Android 5.0 or later for Android devices and iOS 12 or later for Apple devices.

This change makes older phones like Galaxy S, S2, S3 mini, Trend Lite, HTC One and Xiaomi Mi1 no longer able to support WhatsApp.

Affected users were notified of these changes as early as last fall and given the option to purchase a newer phone or migrate to other messaging apps similar to WhatsApp.

The changes to the operating systems, which take effect from April 1, have been announced in advance to allow users to adapt.
