The worst incident on Romanian territory since the beginning of the war in Ukraine: a military drone, possibly Russian, crashed on the Big Island of Braila – VIDEO

A military drone, most likely Russian, crashed on Insula Mare, 8 km from Braila and 23 km from the border with Ukraine. It is the most serious incident of this kind produced on the Romanian territory, since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

The remains of the drone were discovered in the morning of yesterday, March 28, near a farm in the Big Island of Braila. Here, several locals found, in the middle of a crater with a diameter of at least 4 meters, a large military drone, most likely of Russian manufacture. “It was scattered everywhere. Aluminum components and broken glass could be seen. He left a deep pit of almost 2 meters”, said the witnesses.

The people notified the farm manager and the Border Police. The same witnesses gave another detail worthy of consideration: “He came right in the direction of the Bridge, most likely from Reni”. The drone crashed between Braila municipality and Frecatei commune.

Confirmation of the incident came Thursday evening among the law enforcement agencies in Braila county, according to information provided by confidential sources. “Until the analysis of the incident by the Ministry of Defense, we are not speculating about the origin of the drone”, said the same sources.

Contacted by journalists, the prefect of the county, Iulian Timoftei, did not comment on the event, arguing that all possible military information is the prerogative of the MApN.

An official, independent confirmation is given by the local publication Ziarul Comunitatea, which quotes Colonel Stefan Stoian, spokesperson of ISU Braila. He says that he expected the villagers to call 112 in case of such an event, but they did not.

Prefect Iulian Timofei summoned the heads of several local institutions (police, gendarmerie, etc.) to the headquarters of the Braila Prefecture, only after Ziarul Comunitatea raised the alarm. Immediately after reporting the incident, the Police and Gendarmerie cordoned off the area. We will come back with details.

Also yesterday, around 20:00, another military drone was observed and filmed in Braila, above the houses in the Gradina Mare area, close to the Danube. “It was making a strange, loud sound,” said the local resident who filmed the drone’s progress.
