The vice-mayor of Târgu Jiului became a victim of the image strategies of the AUR leader, George Simion, who renounced Pro Romania in order to get rid of accusations of collusion with the PSD and decided, overnight, to push the head of AUR Gorj to a candidacy , Ionelia Priescu. Even though, until the end of the week, Coica was presented as a potential candidate.
The vice-mayor of Târgu Jiului, Gabriel Coica, the one who appeared, recently, with the AUR leaders, was left “beside the wagon”. Having become a local councilor and elected deputy mayor, after running on the Pro Romania lists, Coica started looking for a party that would “adopt” him and secure a place on the candidate lists for the local elections.
Feeling that Pro Romania can no longer ensure access to the local council, the vice mayor negotiated with AUR, being surprised, in February, at a protest organized by George Simion. A week ago, the head of the Gorj branch, Ionelia Priescu, declared to the local press that Gabriel Coica participated in an interview, for the designation as a candidate for the Târgu Jiu City Hall. On Sunday, when the designation of AUR candidates took place in Gorj, in which George Simion also participated, the candidate for Târgu Jiu was “skipped”.
At the national level, it is being discussed that Victor Ponta, the president of Pro Romania and advisor to Prime Minister Ciolacu, would make common strategies with AUR. The strategies with Ponta, associated as an image with the PSD, began to direct criticism towards the AUR.
Simion wanted to get rid of the accusations of colluding with the PSD and gave up accepting as candidates the members from Ponta’s formation.
Coica remained unlaunched and because he had to make a quick decision for the candidacy for Târgu Jiu City Hall, he decided, overnight, to appoint the head of the branch, Ionelia Priescu. She organized a press conference the next day, in which she announced herself as a candidate.
