Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja declared, on Thursday, that Romania has the lowest electricity price in the region, being an effect of investments in “green energy, in renewables”.
“Today’s data show that Romania has the lowest electricity price in the region. And it is definitely an inclusive effect of investing in green energy, in renewables. You probably looked at the map and noticed that Spain, Portugal have very low prices. They have a high share of green energy and have limited interconnections with neighboring countries. They are practically insular. Of course, these interconnections are also important at the level of the European Union, we must realize them”, explained Sebastian Burduja, at the end of Thursday’s session of the Executive.
He also said that, “in parallel, but through all the available funds – PNRR, the modernization fund, the contracts for differences scheme, which we can also discuss, Romania encourages and supports 5,000, 6,000, 7,000, maybe better, of megawatts, green solar and wind energy”, writes News.ro.
“So, in the 2026-2028-2030 horizon, as these capacities will be put into operation, Romanians will have lower and lower bills”, concluded Burduja.
The clarifications of the PNL minister come in the context in which the Government adopted, on Thursday, the Ordinance for the amendment and completion of GEO 27/2022, which eliminates the solar tax for prosumers and updates the support scheme for all electricity and natural gas consumers, which will lead to lower prices for the next 12 months, the Ministry of Energy announced.
Thus, changes were made to GEO 27 that will lead to a decrease in the price at which producers sell without being overtaxed from 450 lei/MWh to 400 lei/MWh for electricity, respectively from 150 lei/MWh to 120 lei/MWh for natural gas. These values have been established following thorough analyzes of the energy markets and following consultations with all actors in the sector.
