And this, either under the auspices of the European Union or under that of NATO.

In January 2022, after much hesitation, Poland became the sixth Eurocorps framework nation, along with France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and Spain.

As such, a Polish general could have taken command. This is the case of General Jarosław Gromadziński.

Appointed to succeed Belgian General Peter Devogelaere in February 2023, this officer worked in particular to create the 18th Mechanized Division (called the “Iron Division”), considered to be one of the most developed units of the Polish Army, according to the website- of the Polish specialist Defense24.

Before taking over the reins of Eurocorps, he was responsible for training Ukrainian soldiers as part of the International Assistance Team for Ukraine based in Wiesbaden, Germany, according to opex360.com.

General Gromadziński has just been subjected to an unusual procedure for an officer of his rank. He was immediately recalled to Poland before being dismissed from his post.

This decision was announced in a press release by the Polish Ministry of Defense following an investigation by SKW, its counterintelligence service, into the “personal security clearance”.

The statement noted that “another officer will be appointed immediately” to ensure the “continuity of operation of the command” of Eurocorps.

This decision is surprising, given that General Gromadziński must have certainly been the subject of a prior investigation before being appointed to the positions he held in recent years.
