The LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers played a thriller on Wednesday night, with several controversial calls taking place down the stretch. Perhaps the most controversial of them all came on the final play of the game, when 76ers forward Kelly Oubre was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer on a play he felt he was fouled on.
In a pool report with Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Crew Chief Kevin Scott admitted that Oubre was fouled by Paul George on that play, saying, “On the last play on the floor, in real time the crew interpreted that play as the defender jumping vertically. However, in the post-game video review we did observe some slight drift to his left by the defender George, and a foul should have been ruled.”
Oubre also felt he was fouled by Kawhi Leonard on a previous drive to the basket, but Scott told Pompey, “The defender, Leonard, was in a legal guarding position and he performs a normal, legal, defensive move and legally blocks the basketball and commits no illegal contact and the results of the blocked shot, the ball became wedged in the backboard. Which by rule is a jumpball. That was correctly judged on the floor.”
This was a wild game that had an even crazier finish, and the NBA admits they blew the final call.
