WhatsApp introduced voice calling on its platform almost a decade ago. This was an important move because it meant that millions of people who were already using WhatsApp no longer needed another app or service to call their loved ones.
Today, voice calls are ubiquitous in messaging apps, but that doesn’t mean developers can’t make changes to improve the user experience. WhatsApp is now testing a redesigned app bar for voice calls.
This updated bar appears when you exit the main call screen and is available in Android beta v2.24.10.18. Instead of just showing call duration in the top bar, this updated design adds a mute/unmute button and a button to end the call.
In its current form, common tasks like ending an ongoing WhatsApp call require users to return to the main call screen. So having these two buttons on the top bar of the app is definitely useful, especially when you’re outside the app and doing something else on your phone during the call.
