Who is the new star of Romanian gymnastics, with two medals at the European Championships: “I want to surpass my mother!”

Romanian athlete Sabrina Maneca Voinea won two silver medals, on beam and floor, at the European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rimini (Italy) on Saturday.

Maneca Voinea, who had the highest mark in the qualifications (13.700), obtained the silver on the floor with the same mark, 13.700, the gold being won by the Italian Manila Esposito, with 13.833 points. The bronze medal went to another Italian, Angela Andreoli, with 13.666.

On the beam, Sabrina Maneca Voinea was scored for her evolution with 14.166, with which she obtained the silver, and Lilia Cosman, with 13.500, ranked 4th. Manila Esposito (gold, Italy, 14.400) and Marine also climbed the podium Boyer (bronze, France, 14,033).

Sabrina Maneca Voinea now has three medals at the European Championships, bronze last year on floor (Antalya), silver on beam and floor this year (Rimini).

The team final will take place on Sunday in Rimini.

Sabrina Maneca Voinea, named athlete of the year 2023 at the Romanian Gymnastics Gala, said that at the Olympic Games in Paris she has a chance to win a medal in the floor and beam events.

“I am proud of this award and I really want to surpass my mother (no – former gymnast Camelia Voinea)”, said the athlete.

She mentioned that she is not afraid of the most titled sports gymnast in the world in recent years, the American Simone Biles.

“It will be difficult, but nothing will bring me down. And Simone Biles is human, and I am human. I say we will fight side by side. It would mean a lot to me an Olympic medal, because I have wanted it since I was little At home, I look at my mother’s medal (silver with the 1988 Romanian Olympic team). I will be the proudest if I get it. I promise everyone that I will do my best to make Romania proud.” explained the gymnast.
