A forensic expert has published a new report on the death of Diego Maradona. It was made public on Monday, and its counter-expertise could completely change the situation, given that eight medical personnel were accused of Maradona’s death and are to be tried on June 4, reports Ouest France quoted by news.ro.

More than three years after his death, there is still not much certainty about Diego Maradona’s death. The new report on the causes of his death could even call into question the criminal proceedings launched against the eight medical professionals accused of playing a role in his death.

Mundo Deportivo writes that a medico-legal expert conducted an investigation at the request of Leopoldo Luque, Pibe de Oro’s neurosurgeon. The purpose of this second expertise was to dispute the medical examination carried out in 2021, which considered Luque and other doctors responsible for the death of the former player.

From the start of the legal proceedings, the accused denied any wrongdoing in the treatment of Maradona, who died aged just 60. Immersed in deep mourning, Argentina needed several weeks to recover from the loss of its idol.

Suspicions increased following the death of the world champion in 1986, and the doctors’ offices and his residences were raided by the police.

Following these searches, prosecutors finally decided to charge the eight professionals with murder, and now they face between 8 and 25 years in prison. The trial will begin on June 4.

External factors could have caused his death

According to the report of forensic doctor Pablo Ferrari, published on Monday, Maradona’s irregular and elevated heart rate could be of natural origin or the result of an “external” factor. A drug like cocaine, which the native of Lanus had abused in the past, could therefore have been the cause.

This new hypothesis marks a reversal of the situation in the case of the death of the football legend.

The prosecutors prefer to treat the situation calmly: “There is nothing new in this case. Criticism has even targeted the counter-expertise, which was prepared in 72 hours and is based on “a minimal part of the evidence presented by the defense”.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020, aged 60, of acute heart failure while recovering from brain surgery.
