The Romanian government has approved the construction of two new stadiums: in Pitesti and Constanța.

FC Argeș and Farul will benefit from modern arenas. Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced in the Government meeting that he gave the green light for the construction of the “Nicolae Dobrin” and “Gheorghe Hagi” stadiums.

“We also have two major projects in the field of sports, through which we honor two great athletes of the country, and I thank Gică Popescu, with whom I consulted in this regard.

The first is the stadium named after our great footballer Gheorghe Hagi, in Constanta. It is a project of almost 100 million euros, with 18,000 seats. The second is the Stadium, in honor of this exceptional Romanian footballer. The stadium in Pitesti will cost around 75 million euros and will have 15,200 seats“, stated Marcel Ciolacu today, according to Agerpres.

Currently, the two arenas have been demolished.

The new sports complex will include the following: a football arena with a capacity of 18,190 seats, a football training ground and a 6-lane athletics track approved for domestic and international competitions with a grandstand with a capacity of about 1,000 seats, plus a building intended for football and athletics team locker rooms.

Gheorghe Hagi: “The new stadium in Constanța will not bear my name!”

According to the documents, the stadium demolished last fall was named after Gică Hagi, but the best Romanian footballer in history clearly announced that this will not happen in the case of the new arena.

“I don’t think it will bear my name. The stadium must be Constanța’s, have another name, not mine. I have an Academy, my name is already somewhere, clear and stable, and I would like it to stay there, because I built it myself and invested everything there. At the new stadium, even if there is still my name in the documents and there is speculation that it will stay, it will not be like that. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again publicly that it won’t happen. A sponsor must come, pay to get the name of the stadium, take some money.

A stadium, if built, must be maintained. You don’t just have to have costs, you have to have revenues as well. It is good for Constanța to think of a very strong sponsor to name the stadium. I would also like this, because we are all in business and we have to produce, cover the costs, not just spend”, explained Hagi.

Inaugurated in 1964, the “Nicolae Dobrin” stadium in Pitesti is history! The workers have leveled the entire site, the concrete has already been moved from the site, and the land will be handed over to the builder to start the work. The entire demolition process cost about 1 million euros.

A new arena will be built on the current site, with 15,200 seats, following an investment of 100 million euros, with money from the state budget, through the National Investment Company. The stadium will be included in the UEFA 4 category, which means that Champions, European and Conference League matches can be held here, as well as the meetings of the national teams in the World or European preliminaries.

The objective will include 5 levels: basement, ground floor and 3 floors, and among the facilities will be found a strength room, two sauna rooms, a recovery room, a medical office, an anti-doping office, a special reception foyer, but also commercial points. There will also be a multi-purpose training room, several spaces dedicated to the media, catering spaces, plus offices. The inauguration of the new stadium could take place in 2026.
