21:10 – WTA MADRID – Jaqueline Cristian achieved an extraordinary victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech. The player from Romania came back from 1-5 down in the first set and won 7-5, 6-2.

20:17 – ATP MADRID – Britain’s Jack Draper (22 years old) won perhaps one of the matches of the day against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (28 years old) after a two-hour battle. Draper won the match 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

In other news, Lucia Bronzetti (25) and Caroline Dolehide (25) had easier passage into the second round with wins in straight sets.

19:25 – WTA/ATP MADRID – Xinyu Wang (22), Magda Linette (32) and Emiliana Arango (23) battled through three sets to qualify for the next round in Madrid.

Meanwhile, in the men’s draw, Luciano Darderi (22) defeated Gael Monfils (37) 6-4, 6-2 and Fabian Marozsan (24) qualified for the second round after an impressive 7- -6(6), 7-6(2) against Russian Aslan Karatsev (30).

17:38 – WTA MADRID – After two positive weeks, Emma Răducanu (21 years old) fell at the first hurdle in Madrid, losing 6-2, 6-2 to the Argentine Maria Lourdes Carle (24 years old). Avoiding a similar fate, Shelby Rogers (31 years old) and Cristina Bucșa (26 years old) made it to the next round.

16:16 – ATP MADRID – More results from an exceptional day in Madrid: Thiago Seyboth Wild (24) advances after beating Roman Safiullin (26) and Daniel Altmaier (25) is also in the round next after a win in two sets.

15:51 – WTA MADRID – Naomi Osaka (26), Sloane Stephens (31) and Donna Vekic (27) won their matches in Madrid and qualified for the second round.

14:25 – ATP MADRID – Jaume Munar, Mariano Navone and Taro Daniel qualified for round 2 after balanced battles on the courts of Madrid.

Gael Monfils, Christopher Eubanks and Denis Shapovalov are expected to perform today.

14:00 – WTA MADRID – Surprise of proportions: Paula Badosa was defeated by her compatriot Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, 93 WTA, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6

Also today, Yulia Putintseva defeated the Chinese Yue Yuan.

Another huge surprise was provided by wildcard 18-year-old Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva of Andorra, world number 335. She outclassed Lin Zhu of China 57 WTA 6-4, 6-3.

07:00 – After being kept away from the court for different reasons, Emma Răducanu, Naomi Osaka and Caroline Wozniacki make their debut today in Madrid in an attempt to recover the positions they once occupied in the rankings.

Two of them, Wozniacki and Osaka, were even WTA leaders, Răducanu also entered the Top 10.
