Darren Cahill expects a response from Djokovic after Sinner’s show of strength: “We know it!”

Jannik Sinner won the third title of 2024 from four contested at the Miami Open on Sunday, defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the final match with the score of 6-3, 6-1. Clearly delighted with the achievement, Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill spoke highly of his pupil.

The Australian, although he admitted that his pupil played extraordinary tennis, made it clear that he must focus on continuous improvement. The name of Novak Djokovic, winner of 24 Grand Slam titles, who continues at 36 years of age to continuously improve his game, was brought up.

Cahill added that other players on the circuit such as Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz, both top contenders for Sinner, are no different, noting that they continue to urge the recent Miami Open champion to work on his game as well: “That’s the great thing about Novak Djokovic too”said Darren Cahill. “Novak Djokovic, at 36, is still looking for improvements in his game and we know he will make adjustments”.

“We also know Daniil Medvedev will make adjustments. We know there will be changes. Carlos Alcaraz continues to look for improvements in his serve. It’s normal”, he added. It remains to be seen what response Novak Djokovic will be able to give, given that he has reached this stage of the season without a title, which is rare in his exceptional career.
