Currently, statistics indicate that up to 85% of subjects under the age of 50 experience some form of memory impairment, with a significant incidence among those under 30.

This situation is associated with an increased risk of developing dementia syndrome, especially Alzheimer’s disease, at older ages. According to clinical psychologist Silviu Axelerad, cognitive dysfunction is a disorder that affects cognitive processes such as thinking, memory, reasoning, learning, orientation and intellectual capacity, having the potential to influence a person’s ability to function effectively in everyday life. “There are two distinct forms of memory loss: acute and progressive. Acute loss, called amnesia, occurs suddenly, usually as a result of an acute illness or events that disrupt memory processes, while progressive loss is characterized by a gradual deterioration of cognitive function, often associated with degenerative conditions of the central nervous system . Acute amnesia is manifested by a sudden loss of memory and is frequently associated with conditions or events that influence the normal functioning of the brain. Among the most common causes, we can list: stroke, cerebral aneurysm, migraine, epilepsy, depression, anxiety, insomnia, head trauma or brain surgery, infections (meningitis, syphilis, HIV, Lyme disease), use of certain drugs , oncological treatments, nutritional deficiencies, consumption of prohibited substances (drugs) or alcohol consumption”, said the specialist. These events can trigger amnesia and may also be associated with mood disorders or delirium. In the case of degenerative diseases, the deterioration of brain function leads to a progressive loss of memory over time. This progressive loss of memory is often associated with pathologies such as dementia with Lewy bodies, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis or even brain tumors.

Young people in contemporary society are more and more often faced with memory disorders, also called cognitive dysfunctions, really a growing problem among them. From stress, lack of sleep, poor diet and academic pressure or job pressure, many young people experience memory disorders. Free radicals produced in the body, especially in stressful situations, can damage neurons and affect memory, the psychologist emphasized.

According to recent research, starting from the age of 20, a deterioration of nerve cells is observed, with an estimated loss of about 3,000 brain cells each day without being replaced. External factors and free radicals play a role in this degeneration, affecting memory and quality of life in young people.

In young people, memory decline can be caused by free radicals, produced during normal metabolism, which especially affect fat-rich tissues such as the brain. A hectic lifestyle and consumption of toxic foods increase the production of free radicals, damaging neurons and affecting memory, especially in situations of stress or lack of sleep. In addition, memory impairment in young people can also be attributed to depression, anxiety, stress and environmental factors, which directly affect cognitive function, causing a gradual decline in memory. This is why it is very important to initiate treatment according to the identified cause to prevent memory damage. In addition, lifestyle changes are essential, with an emphasis on exercise and balanced diets.
