Google recently announced the implementation of a new artificial intelligence feature in the Google Maps app, intended to transform the way users discover new places.

The new feature, which will initially be available to active members of the Google Maps community – those who contribute reviews, photos and answers to questions – uses AI to provide personalized suggestions based on user preferences.

The feature analyzes details of more than 250 million places and reviews from more than 300 million users to recommend destinations that might match everyone’s interests. The initial rollout of the feature is this week, and Google plans to roll it out more broadly after evaluating feedback, according to Tech Crunch.

How Google Maps’ new AI feature works

The AI functionality on Google Maps allows users to enter specific requirements into the search, such as looking for places with a certain atmosphere or specific, for example, “places with a relaxing atmosphere.” The AI system will evaluate available information, including photos and reviews, to generate relevant and well-organized suggestions.

Users can interact with this feature with additional questions, such as lunch suggestions, and the AI will respond with options that align with expressed interests. Google claims this technology will make exploring new locations simpler and more intuitive, turning search into a conversation with Maps.

However, no details are yet available on when this feature will be available in Romania or other countries outside of the initial test.
