The Licensing Administration within the Romanian Football Federation announced, on Friday, on the official website of the FRF, that 9 teams, including Oțelul Galați, obtained the UEFA license to play in the European Cups in the 2024-2025 season.

The 9 clubs that obtained the UEFA license are: Sepsi OSK, Oțelul Galați, Universitatea Cluj, Farul Constanța, FCU Craiova, CFR Cluj, Rapid, FCSB and Universitatea Craiova.

Regarding the situation of the second league team Corvinul Hunedoara, which will play the final of the Romanian Cup with Oțelul Galați, and in the event of a victory will have the chance to play in the Europa League preliminaries, the Licensing Administration stated that it cannot provide details at this time about the licensing process, as extraordinary licensing procedures are carried out by UEFA. According to UEFA’s Licensing Regulations, only it can grant special permission to a club to enter UEFA club competitions.

The licensing manager of the Oțelul Galați club, Marian Brăilescu, stated that obtaining the right to play in European cups is a major success.

‘Obtaining the UEFA and League I license for the 2024/2025 season represents a major success for our club and an important step in achieving our strategic goals. This result is not only a recognition of our compliance with the highest standards in the football field, but also a validation of the continuous work done by the technical and administrative staff. Together we managed to demonstrate the integrity and sustainability of the club, our compliance with financial, sports and legal regulations. New challenges await us and I am confident that, having the right to participate in UEFA and League 1 competitions, we will continue to develop and bring joy to our fans’, said Marian Brăilescu, former president of the club, according to the official website of the Galatian group.

At the same time, the women’s football teams that received a UEFA WCL license were announced: Universitatea Olimpia Cluj, Csikszereda Miercurea Ciuc, Farul Constanța and Politehnica Timisoara.

The Club Licensing Commission issued its rulings on 18 April 2024, and the clubs had until 22 April 2024 to appeal. The Appeals Commission issued its rulings on 26 April 2024. The licenses were received as a result of the finding meeting the minimum requirements set out in the National Club Licensing and Financial Sustainability Regulations, 2023 edition, or in the National Club Licensing Regulations for participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, 2023 edition.

Corvinul Hunedoara and Oțelul Galați will play the final of the Romanian Cup from the 2023-2024 edition, the match being scheduled for May 15, at the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu.

The team that wins the Romanian Cup will qualify for the Europa League preliminaries, the second most valuable competition on the continent. AGERPRES/(A, AS/author: Adrian Țone, editor: Mihai Țenea)
