UPDATE 2: The Minister of Labour, Simona Bucura Oprescu, announced, in a press conference in Timișoara, that pensions will be delivered both on cards and by postmen until May 3.

UPDATE: The government decided, on Thursday, that the pensions related to the month of May are paid before the Easter holidays, and the National Public Pensions House will transfer the money until April 30 to the Romanian Post Office and banks.

“At the request of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity initiated a draft Government Decision and a Memorandum so that the payment of pensions can be made before the Easter holidays. The executive approved, in Thursday’s meeting, the two normative acts that ensure the advance payment of pensions and other rights provided by special laws, related to the month of May 2024”, announced the Ministry of Labor, in a press release taken by News. ro.

The National Public Pensions House (CNPP) is to transfer the necessary amounts to the Romanian Post Office and the commercial banks with which it has concluded agreements for the payment of these rights by April 30.

“The advance payment of pensions before the Easter holidays requires a sustained effort for which I want to thank all those involved, my colleagues in the ministry, the National Public Pension House and the territorial pension houses, the commercial banks with which CNPP has agreements and, not in lastly, to the representatives of the Romanian Post Office, who will make efforts so that these rights reach the pensioners as quickly as possible”, said the Minister of Labor, Simona Bucura – Oprescu, quoted in the press release.

According to the cited document, for the advance payment of pensions related to May 2024, by postal order, the amount of 1,961,165 thousand lei from the state social insurance budget, respectively 339,359 thousand lei from the state budget, will be transferred to Compania Naţională Poşta Română SA , and to commercial banks the sum of 6,346,977 thousand lei from the state social insurance budget, respectively 683,898 thousand lei from the state budget.

The total amount required for the advance payment of pensions amounts to 9,331,399 thousand lei.

The original news: Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday in Timișoara that the government today adopts a decision allowing the payment of pensions before Easter.

“It is a natural gesture of respect towards Romania’s seniors. I know there will be a lot of work in the ministries, retirement homes, post office, banks,” said Ciolacu.

Orthodox Easter is celebrated this year on May 5, so the period May 3-6 is free according to the Labor Code. Also, May 1st is free, and for May 2nd the Government has made a “bridge” for budget workers. And some private companies granted a day off on May 2.

The Romanian Post can distribute the pensions before the Easter holidays, but the process depends on the date the company receives the money, the general director of the state postal operator, Valentin Ştefan, declared on Wednesday.

According to the general director of the Romanian Post Office, approximately 14,000 employees are involved in the distribution of pensions, of which 10,000 are postmen.
